Run the Experiments (21) – Nothing but Lies
(December 14th, 2017) Here's a new episode of Lab Times' serialised crime story.
The two had only just left Charlotte's neighbourhood, when they hit the usual heavy traffic in Madrid’s morning rush hour. Impatient honking car horns in front and behind them. There was hardly any movement, at all. Normally, the airport wasn't so far away but at this hour, on these streets, it was like trying to get to the moon.
Nervous beads of sweat formed on Fernando's forehead. Could they still make it? Would they catch Marcus before he boarded the plane for Germany? Taking with him the stolen USB stick.
“I know a (longer) shortcut,” Fernando elatedly piped up and swung sharply down a side street; Charlotte was flung to the passenger door.
“Oops, sorry!” Fernando grinned.
With screeching tires, they drove at hair-raising speed down narrow back roads, zig-zagging between the houses toward the airport.
“Now how much time?” Fernando was now sweating profusely.
“Twenty minutes,” she replied as they careered into the airport drop-off area.
“Quick, Charlotte, there's the entrance to Departures.”
It didn’t take long. A quick glance around and she spotted Marcus, leisurely sipping his latte.
“Typical! So, he had been lying - again. Guess my coffee wasn’t good enough.”
Charlotte faltered, the words were stuck in the back of her throat. “His plane doesn't leave earlier. It was just an excuse to steal away as fast as possible.”
“What a creep!”
Determined to confront him, Fernando and Charlotte made a bee line straight for the unsuspecting Marcus.
